Save our rich textile heritage!

The fate of Shetlands knitting program in schools is being questioned. The Shetland Islands Council are making a decision next Thursday as to whether or not to continue teaching knitting in primary schools. Knitting is such a huge part of Shetlands rich textile heritage it would be really disappointing.

Many of Shetlands contemporary and traditional textile designers feel that they learned a lot from their primary school knitting experience and have no doubt that it influenced their textile career.

Please help us in creating awareness to this issue. Let us know how you feel about the removal of knitting in schools how do you feel it will effect the future of Shetland textiles?
